Key exclusions before making a claim

Below are a few key pieces of information you need to know about before making a claim.

Please check the T&Cs for the full list of eligibility and restrictions on your coverage as we’ve only picked out the most frequently asked.

General

  • Your claim must be submitted within 30 days of the incident

Medical

In case of a medical emergency, need for repatriation or medical assistance or curtailment, please first contact International SOS. They're available 24/7.

Key exclusions:

  • You’re not travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner

  • You’re not claiming for an incident that has been triggered by a pre-existing medical condition

  • You’re not claiming medical expenses and emergency assistance for any diagnosed symptoms that need attention or investigation where you’re waiting for consultations or results because the underlying cause has not yet been found

Travel and Accommodation

  • Coverage will only apply to eligible travel and accommodation expenses that were paid using your Yonder card

  • Your trip begins and ends in your country of residence

  • Each trip must not exceed 60 consecutive days, with a maximum of 180 travel days within any 12-month period

  • If a trip exceeds the maximum duration, coverage will not apply to any part of the trip

  • If travel or accommodation is paid for using multiple payment methods, cancellation claims will only be considered for what was paid using your Yonder card

  • If you booked a one way or one-way open ticket, you must’ve booked your inbound ticket before your trip began to be considered for a claim

Winter Sports

To make a valid winter sports claim, make sure the activity is covered, report equipment losses promptly (within 24 hours), obtain written confirmation for closures or delays. Please note that equipment over 5 years old and unattended gear are not covered.

What is not covered:

  • Skiing against official local safety warnings or advice

  • Off-piste skiing or snowboarding unless accompanied by a qualified guide or instructor

  • You won’t be covered for injuries, illness or death caused by participating in certain winter sports such as: ski racing, ski jumping, heli-sking, ice hockey, bob sleighing, use of skeletons, luges or freestyle/competitive winter sports

  • Loss of winter sports equipment if it was left unattended in a public space

  • Closure of ski area or avalanches outside of typical ski seasons

    • Cover for ski area closure is only available for Journeys between:

      • Northern Hemisphere after 1st November and before the 31st March

      • Southern Hemisphere after 1st May and before the 30th September
