What is 3DS Secure?

Updated this week

1. What is 3DS?

3D Secure (3DS) is a security standard designed to help reduce fraud and add an extra layer of protection to your online payments.

You might also see it referred to as:

  • Mastercard SecureCode

  • Identity Check

  • Verified by Visa

3DS uses authentication, which means you verify your identity by providing secure information that only you should know—such as a one-time passcode (OTP) or app-based approval.

2. Why is authentication used?

Authentication provides an additional layer of security for online transactions, making it harder for fraudsters to gain access to your payment details.

3. Is 3DS active on my card?

Yes, your card has been enrolled in Mastercard SecureCode (3DS) so that wherever you see the Mastercard SecureCode logo online, your card number will automatically be recognised during checkout. Your card provider is contacted during checkout to confirm your identity as the genuine cardholder.

4. What is the process for Authentication?

Yonder uses the latest version 3DS 2.0, which offers a faster and more seamless experience while still keeping your payments safe. We use biometric data and app approval so you can confirm transactions with less hassle and more confidence.

5. What if I suspect that fraud has occurred on my card?

If you ever suspect that a fraudulent purchase has been made using your card, contact Member Support by starting a chat in-app immediately.
